We’ve been thinking a lot recently at NYY about staff wellbeing and ways we can look after each other and take charge of our own wellbeing.
This comes at a time of year we know can be a particularly difficult to adjust to, when summer has faded, and the dark nights are drawing in. For some, this can mean not managing their usual evening walks and other hobbies. For others, the darkness can just make life’s inevitable ups and downs feel that little bit more difficult to face.
One new initiative The Youth Development Team are trying out from this month to support each other with this, is our ‘Cuppa and Catch-up’ sessions. These will provide opportunities for staff to connect with each other within the working day and have a cuppa and a natter! NYY staff are a creative and talented bunch, so we are excited to see what wellbeing activities we can come up with to do together in these sessions!
We have also recently launched our safety and wellbeing staff share, which goes out every few weeks. This compiles safety and wellbeing top tips contributed by staff and captures things we need to celebrate including staff thank you’s and compliments. This has been a lovely way of spreading even more positivity and kindness throughout the team.
One article we shared in our latest edition is all about Autumn wellness tips for the mind and body. This was packed with suggestions about sleep, immunity boosting foods and the benefits of moving and getting outdoors this season. Check out this article for your own inspiration.
There is also information and resources on the Mental Health Foundation Page all about World Mental health Day which has taken place this month, with the 2024 theme of workplace mental health.
Workplace wellbeing is something we are continually working on at NYY, because we know that in order to support young people, we first need to look after ourselves.
