NYY working with York St John University to help to inspire future Youth Workers

Last year, NYY was asked to deliver a presentation to Criminology students at York St John University for their Youth and Resistance module. As a Change Direction Youth Mentor, I was happy to do this with the hope of inspiring our next generation of youth workers. The presentation encapsulated information about the Change Direction mentoring scheme, how we work in a trauma informed way with reference to the trauma recovery model, day in the life of a mentor, diversionary activities, things we can support with, and challenges encountered in the job. There was dedicated time at the end of the presentation for questions, as well as talking about Tang Hall youth club and if any students would like to volunteer here. I found the presentation really helpful to reflect on my own practice and job role. It reinforced what an inspiring role mentors have on young people. I am pleased to have the opportunity again to deliver the presentation to a new group of Criminology students this month.
