My name is Liam Powers and I am a Youth Mentor at North Yorkshire Youth, currently delivering the Change Direction scheme across the York and Selby areas.
I joined North Yorkshire Youth in May 2021 and I have been spending time building positive relationships with local organisations, schools and young people. I currently work with 21 young people on a one to one basis offering a wide range of support, both in schools and out in the community. I also help run Sherburn Youth Club on Monday evenings, which has been a great experience personally, but also allows me to reach more young people and support them along their journeys.
I am a very creative person and have made hip-hop music for over 15 years. Having lyricism skills has been greatly beneficial to some of the young people I work with. I have been able to teach young people how to write creatively, which has been a great form of expression to the young people I work with. In addition to this, I am trained in counselling skills which has been extremely useful in helping me to further support young people that are struggling with their mental health.
I hope to continue offering vital support to the young people within our community and ultimately to make a positive difference in their lives.
