Returning to work after maternity leave in 2023 and then heading off again for another maternity leave at the end of the year has given me the perfect balance of professional growth and personal fulfilment. My role as a Youth and Community Development Worker for North Yorkshire Youth (NYY) is both rewarding and inspiring.
One of the things I love most about my job is the variety. Every day brings something new—whether I’m visiting one of our NYY youth clubs in Scarborough, Filey, and Whitby, supporting dedicated volunteers who run their own youth clubs, or helping with community projects, I’m constantly learning and meeting new people, which keeps things exciting!
The real heart of this job though, is supporting the amazing volunteers who run the volunteer led youth clubs across the area. Their dedication and passion for youth work is incredible. These volunteers go above and beyond, offering their time and energy to create safe, inclusive spaces for young people. Seeing their commitment in action is a constant source of inspiration for me and makes me want to offer my support all the more.
The impact on the young people we work with is what makes this role so meaningful. Youth clubs aren’t just about having fun; they’re about helping young people build confidence, develop new skills, and discover their potential. Watching them grow and knowing I played a part in providing these opportunities is incredibly rewarding.
